Introducing the RS6 FORGED Wheel: The Huntsman meets the Type 33
By Douglas Topott·
Kahn Design has added the RS6 to its KAHN | FORGED collection, a new full-face wheel that draws together two of the most recognisable designs in the company's history. Where recent additions to the Forged range, such as RSX, have looked to a single wheel for their starting point, RS6 takes a different approach, combining the presence of the Huntsman wheel with a subtle nod to the graphic language of the Type 33 to fill what has been a stylistic gap in the current range.

A Design Drawn From Two Icons

The Huntsman Architecture
The Huntsman wheel, designed for the classic Defender, earned its reputation through sheer presence. Its solid metal centre and windows positioned only at the very edge of the rim gave the wheel an unmistakably full-face character, a sense of weight and solidity that set it apart from more conventional alloy wheel spoke designs of its era. RS-6 borrows that same architecture directly, built around a solid centre face with just six windows positioned at the outer edge of the rim, arranged as two sets of three to preserve the symmetry and presence that made Huntsman so distinctive.

The Type 33, Hidden in Plain Sight
Look closer, however, and the Type 33 reveals itself. Rather than a visible spoke pattern, RS6 carries a hidden three-spoke graphic worked into the face itself, expressed through a deliberate shift in weighting across the surface. The surfaces between the windows carry a noticeably thicker graphic weight, while the horizontal surfaces above and below the windows are brought down to be thinner, creating the same dynamic tension between mass and lightness that defines the Type 33's three-spoke diamond cut face. It is a detail that rewards a second look, present throughout the design without ever dominating it the way a conventional spoke would.

The RSX Dip
The centre of the wheel is where RS6 makes its clearest connection to Kahn Design's current range. The face carries what the studio has termed the RSX Dip, an angular, stepped profile that drops away to meet the PCD across multiple distinct levels, each transition sharp rather than blended, creating a rippled effect that spreads progressively outward across the face. The same concave principle underpins the recently launched RSX2, but on RS6's full-face design the detail is given considerably more room to develop, becoming the wheel's central feature rather than one element among several.

Function, Not Decoration
The six outer windows are not purely decorative. Positioned to draw air directly across the brakes, they preserve the functional cooling role that similar apertures played on Huntsman, a detail many full-face wheel designs sacrifice in pursuit of a cleaner surface. RS6 keeps that function intact, finishing the design with six radially positioned grooves across the face, a detail pulled directly from Kahn Design's earliest cutting room floor concepts, designs sketched during the company's early years that were never taken to production. A floating KAHN® centre cap completes the wheel, consistent with the rest of the current Forged range.

Sizes, Fitments and Finishes
RS6 launches in 23-inch and 24-inch fitments, with further sizes and fitments planned across the broader Land Rover family. The standard catalogue finish is Satin Black, though as with all Kahn Design wheels, RS6 can be requested in any finish a customer specifies, such as Hypersilver Diamond Cut on a Range Rover to bring a premium raw billet aluminium look, or Satin Black Diamond Cut on a Range Rover Sport to show a lighter graphic and sportier look.

Afzal Kahn on the RS-6
Commenting on the launch, Afzal Kahn said: "The RS6 existed in details sitting on our cutting room floor sketches for longer than most people would guess. Some of the details on this wheel, the radial grooves especially, go right back to our earliest years and never made it past the page. Bringing Huntsman and Type 33 together gave us the right reason to finally finish it properly."
