First sketch to finished product

For the first time, KAHN® is taking briefs from outside the group. One British design house, everything in-house.

A design house, not an agency

Since 1998 KAHN® has built brands, products and original ideas out of a studio in Chelsea. The roots are in automotive styling, but the work reaches well past cars: several ventures under the KAHN® Group, a portfolio of trademarks and registered designs, and a hand in how the luxury sector draws itself.

Everything is created and launched in-house, first sketch to final production. That independence is what made collaborations with Aston Martin, Cosworth and INEOS possible, alongside our own names: Chelsea Truck Company, the Flying Huntsman, the Vengeance.

What the studio does

Commission one capability or the whole run. Most programmes start with one and grow into the rest.

Design

Where every commission starts, whether the object is a vehicle or not.

  • Automotive and vehicle design
  • Product design and development
  • Pattern and surface detailing
  • 2D and 3D visualisation in Alias

Engineering and manufacture

Validation and production, in-house or inside our own supply chain.

  • Wheel engineering and manufacturing
  • Engineering and validation
  • Manufacturing and launch

Brand and craft

The parts of a product that are not its geometry.

  • Brand and IP creation
  • Interior leather work and trim

Beyond the vehicle

Where a marque goes once the car is finished.

  • Apparel and lifestyle accessories
  • Franchising and brand rollout

Availability for external programmes is limited. We take on a small number each year.

How a brief becomes a product

Every commission runs the same sequence, whatever its scale. The order is the point: rights are registered before tooling is cut.

9Stages

  1. Concept sketching

Ideation grounded in research, heritage and where the product has to sit in its market.

  2. 2D visualisation

Sketches resolved into clear directions you can choose between.

  3. 3D CAD and modelling

Full surface modelling in Alias, built to hand straight to engineering.

  4. Structural analysis

FEA simulation to confirm strength, safety and performance before anything is made.

  5. Rapid prototyping

Physical prototypes used to test and refine the design in the real world.

  6. Physical testing

Testing against safety and durability benchmarks, on the bench and on the road.

  7. IP registration

Trademarks and design rights registered internationally, before tooling is committed.

  8. Tooling and manufacture

Validated design moved into full-scale production.

  9. Finishing and launch

Final finishing, quality control, and a launch built around the brand.

We don’t just design. We redefine.

Whether the brief is a single product, a whole brand or a bespoke vehicle programme, it runs the process that has shaped our own portfolio for 25 years. The team spans design, engineering, legal, marketing and operations, and most of them have been here more than a decade.

Before you brief us

Can I commission a single stage, or is it end to end only?

Either. Take one stage, such as a concept sketch package, a CAD build, an FEA validation or a tooling run, or take the whole sequence from first sketch to market launch.

Do you only work on vehicles?

No. Vehicles are the roots. The studio also takes on products of any kind, brand and identity creation, wheel engineering, interiors and trim, pattern and surface design, apparel ranges, and international brand rollout.

Who owns the intellectual property?

Ownership is agreed at the outset of every engagement. International trademark and design registration is stage seven of the process, not an afterthought. We protect a client’s ideas the way we protect our own.

Can you manufacture, or design only?

We manufacture. Production tooling, manufacture, finishing and quality control sit in-house or inside our established international supply chain, including our own wheel manufacturing division.

What does a first conversation involve?

Send an outline of the brief, the category and your target timescale. We come back with a view on feasibility, the stages we would recommend, and an indicative programme structure.

Tell us what you want to build

Send the brief, the category and the timescale. We will come back with a view on feasibility and whether we are the right house for it.
