Heritage Edition Defender

Honouring a Legacy: The Chelsea Truck Company Heritage Defender

When Land Rover brought production of the Defender to an end in 2016, it marked the close of an extraordinary chapter in British automotive history. To celebrate the icon’s remarkable run, three special editions were released: the Heritage, Adventure, and Autobiography. Each represented a pillar of Defender success, and each became instantly collectible.

Among them, the Heritage Edition struck a particular chord. Evocative and nostalgic, it looked back to the origins of the Defender story while serving as one of the final expressions of the legendary 4x4.

The Heritage Defender – A Modern Classic

Produced in a limited run of just 400 vehicles, the Heritage Edition became one of the last Defenders to roll off Land Rover’s Solihull production line. Finished in Grasmere Green with an Alaska White roof, the colourway was a deliberate homage to the very first Land Rovers of 1947.

Paying further tribute, each Heritage Defender wore the “HUE 166” graphic on its front wing — the registration of the very first pre-production Series I Land Rover. Available as a Defender 90 in hard top and station wagon form, as well as the Defender 110, it combined instantly recognisable retro detailing with the rugged utility that defined the model.

Silver bumpers, body-coloured steel wheels, Heritage badges, and logo mudflaps gave the exterior its vintage authenticity. Inside, an aluminium clock, heritage-style aluminium door handles, perforated leather accents, and classic cloth seats with vinyl sides balanced simplicity with subtle refinement.

Chelsea Truck Company – Refining a Legend

At Chelsea Truck Company, we recognised the importance of preserving this special piece of Defender heritage. Rather than reinventing, we chose to enhance and refine, adding carefully considered design details that amplify the presence of the original without diluting its DNA.

Our signature Wide Forest Wheel Arches lend the Heritage Defender a bolder, more confident stance, perfectly complementing the iconic silhouette while staying true to the rugged authenticity of the model.

Paired with our deep concave 1947-style Heritage Wheels in 9x16”, finished to echo the spirit of the earliest Land Rovers, these enhancements provide a subtle but powerful transformation. The result is a Defender that looks every inch the classic it was designed to be, yet with the road presence and proportion that defines a modern Chelsea Truck Company build.

A Living Tribute

The Heritage Defender is more than just a vehicle. It is a living tribute to 68 years of Land Rover craftsmanship, a bridge between past and present, and a statement of enduring British design.

By taking the last of the line and applying our bespoke vision, Chelsea Truck Company ensures that the Defender Heritage Edition remains not only a collector’s dream, but also a timeless expression of individuality on and off the road.
