A Celebratory Farewell to a British Motoring Icon
In a striking homage to one of Britain’s most beloved vehicles, the Chelsea Truck Company unveiled a bespoke Defender 90 at the 2017 London Motor Show. The vehicle, known officially as the London Motor Show Edition Defender 90, was created in collaboration with designer Afzal Kahn to mark the end of Land Rover Defender production, which concluded in 2016 after 68 years and more than two million units produced.
This unique version pays tribute to the Defender’s storied legacy while incorporating the bold styling and refined craftsmanship that define the Chelsea Truck Company’s design philosophy.
Bold Presence in French Racing Blue
Finished in an eye-catching French Racing Blue, the special edition Defender makes an immediate impression. Its aggressive stance is enhanced by wide track front and rear wings with integrated vents and visible bolt detailing. A black stainless steel front bumper, aluminium sump guard, and TRON-style ring lighting further amplify the off-road aesthetic.
The front fascia is anchored by Shadow Chrome headlights and a custom X-Lander grille that mirrors the body colour. Additional styling features include functional mesh vents on the hood, toughened rubber mud flaps, and a Chelsea Truck Company branded spare wheel cover at the rear.
Performance and Style on Satin Black Alloy Wheels
The Defender sits on 20-inch Mondial Retro RS-Forged alloy wheels, finished in Satin Black with a deep concave five-spoke design. Wrapped in 275 55 20 all-terrain tyres, these wheels offer both rugged capability and a strong urban presence.
Modern Upgrades for Contemporary Roads
Retaining its original 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine and four-wheel drive platform, the London Motor Show Edition includes a plug-and-play power upgrade that increases output to 170 brake horsepower. An automatic gearbox conversion enhances drivability in city environments while maintaining the Defender’s renowned off-road capabilities.
Handcrafted Interior with Signature Detail
Behind the dark privacy glass, the interior reveals a bespoke and luxurious cabin. Heated GTB sport seats are upholstered in quilted and perforated leather, with bold accent stitching in black, green, yellow, and blue. The same attention to detail extends to the rear seats, offering passengers a consistent level of comfort and refinement.
A Rare Collector’s Item with Strong Value
Beyond its bespoke styling and enhanced performance, the London Motor Show Edition Defender 90 is already being recognised as a valuable collector’s piece. Independent automotive valuation experts at CAP estimate the vehicle retains 40 percent more value than standard Defender models, reinforcing its status as both a tribute and an investment.
